Away from SOME, car`s, and stress ... you’ll find Torfinnsbu. And the journey there, whether you choose to go by boat, horseback, or on foot, places you right in the midst of peace and tranquility.
No option for quick changes.
You MUST move forward on your own. The joy in this, for me, is immense. You live, sense, enjoy, or despise it. Regardless, every single step is stored on your hard drive. And it stays with you for the rest of your life, whether you realize it or not.
Now, the peace, tranquility, and joy also hang on my wall at home.
It was completely dark when I strapped on my skis in the center of Beitostølen. Windless... over 20 degrees below zero. On the way up, my dog caught a scent on the ground ... a fox ran past, but stopped after 30 meters when my dog didn’t follow ... who are you two?
The goal of the trip was to capture sunrise photos behind the ski lift on Søre Knausen. As the sun began its quiet ascent behind Rundemellen, I looked back and saw the moon standing beautifully over Bitihorn, one of Valdres' most iconic peaks through the ages.
Alongside the photos I've taken in the Faroe Islands, and those of my children ... this morning scene hangs among my favorites.
Bø Sommerland attracts many visitors on fine summer days, but few are aware of the majestic and incredible Gygrestolen, located just a short drive from Bø town center. What makes this place even better is that there's a beautiful swimming spot right by the parking area.
When you first reach Gygrestolen, you're greeted by a stunning panoramic view that stretches across Telemark with the surrounding mountains. Whether the sun is shining or not, the air is always fresh and clear, making it the perfect place to take a break and enjoy the scenery. It’s also a great opportunity to reflect on life and perhaps enjoy a packed lunch if you haven’t already eaten it earlier in the day.
Færder, just like Svenner, is an island a bit further out to sea. You’ve probably paddled past both fjord openings that lie within these two lighthouse islands. Majestic and towering, as only two lighthouses can be. Then one day, you’ve gathered the courage—no, you’ve checked the weather forecast—and set off on your kayak journey to paradise.
An hour or two later... you’re out at sea. You feel it in your body. This is a different kind of paddling. Better, authentic, and fantastic.
And since the sea is relatively calm, you carefully take out your Canon EOS 550D camera, with the lens that’s gotten a bit rusty after many trips on the water. But it still holds up well since you’ve never capsized as long as the camera’s been with you. You look at the display on the back of the camera ... did you get the perfect shot? The screen is reflecting the sunlight ... a bit hard to see, but, yes, it looks great ... just like in real life :-D
Enjoy your paddle, or delight in a fantastic picture on your wall.
In the area around Bygdinsheim, located on the edge of Jotunheimen, you can choose between two beaches—one with sand and one with pebbles. No matter which beach you choose to visit, you'll experience a refreshing encounter both above and below the water.
Here, you can glimpse the fresh and clear water with its hidden secrets, while enjoying the crisp, clean air as you take in the view of the majestic Torfinnstindene—a sight that will rejuvenate both body and mind.
This is definitely a place to visit and/or to hang on your wall at home or in your office.
My oldest son studied for a few years in Sola. This gave me the opportunity to visit both him and the Jæren region.
Jæren is perhaps, along with parts of Finnmark, an area where you think ... this doesn't feel like Norway...
After many years in Denmark, many parts of Jæren are a nostalgic journey back to a land filled with joyful songs and good beer.
Some snapshots from the area can be viewed here...
